Some letter ideas.

I’d suggests perhaps three short paragraphs.
  1. Why the area is important to YOU.
  2. County Commissioners paragraph. Encourage further support. Praise for time and energy to date. As envisioned they would hold title and appoint people to the management team.
  3. Directed to Forest Capital asking for their cooperation.

Some suggestions for each of those sections are listed below. Use parts, change words, write your own. Just make it YOUR LETTER.

  1. Mt. Emily is important to me ....

    I’m writing to let you know how important public access to Mt. Emily is to me.

    Having access to Mt. Emily, just minutes from anywhere in La Grande.  allows me to...

    Public access to recreational land is a major reason I live in northeastern Oregon.

    (follow some such sentence with what you do up there or how you feel about just knowing it’s there for us)


  2. Message to County Commissioners...

    Due to the efforts of the Mount Emily Coalition it now seems possible for Union County to gain title to 3,600+ acres on Mt. Emily to form a diverse public recreation area.

    I support efforts to have Union County gain title to the land to form a recreation area.

    I commend our Union County Commissioners for all of the time and consideration they have given this project.

    Through the efforts of Mt. Emily Recreation Coalition and Union County Commissioners a working plan and strategy has been developed for acquiring and managing this strategic recreational property.

  3. Message to Forest Capital Partners...

    I look forward to Forest Capital working with Mt. Emily Recreation Coalition and Union County to see that this vision becomes a reality.

    If Forest Capital agrees to work in good faith with local groups I feel confident Mt. Emily Recreation Area could become a reality.

    It seems that Forests Capital can make a very handsome profit by selling to the county.  I would hope that they will recognize the significance this area has to the people living in the area and not take steps that would cause the land to be stripped of trees and divided up.

    Mount Emily is a stunning landmark as well as a recreation area.  I am hoping that Forest Capital will allow it to remain the stunning undivided feature it is today.
